# Algorand vs Avalanche

Indeed, Avalanche looks faster, but the comparison is you mentioned is not clear, and is missing a good scientific approach:

1. Algorand has finality after 5s. Avalanche doesn’t have finality. It doesn’t even have state commitments ! Validators only agree about endorsing certain blocks. It’s eventually consistent, though it’s very fast. As far as I know, there is no good research, or confirmed simulation proving their latency claims.

2. Algorand is putting consistency before throughput. Avalanche is opposite.

3. To do right benchmark and comparison you will need to put two blockchains on same network setup using same blocksize and have some reasoning about latency and state. This is lot of work, and in case of Avalanche you will need to add one more metric into equation: what’s the ratio of the blocks which are dropped.

4. Bare bone Algorand is more feature full than Avalanche.
