Node syncronization time

Speaking of an archive node, not participating, is it possible to backup the entire data folder, with the node stopped, and restore it to a different machine (same distro and configuration) to speed up synchronization? Is it a drop-in or are there any recommended operations?

This thread is over a year and a half old, have any official backup procedures been created in the meantime?

Yes, with the node stopped, it is safe to backup the data directory and (potentially) restore it to a different machine.

At this time, it is possible to do that even across different platforms, however, I would advise against relying on that “undocumented capability”.

On thing to note is that the files security flags, ownership and such need to align with the target platform.
